Ford announced today that its sales fell by a disappointing 19% in January. Ford noted that the resale value of its newer products have improved for the 2007 Ford Fusion, Lincoln Navigator, Ford Expedition, as well as the Ford Escape. January marks the first full month of the sales of the new Edge and Lincoln MKX. The Edge managed to sell to about 5,600 customers, while the MKX only around 1,700.
While Ford is slowly falling, Toyota reported that US sales have rose to 9.5% for January. The sales of the Camry and RAV4 rose up to 14.7% and 27.1%. What’s interesting is that the sales of the new LS460 flagship from Lexus tripled that compared to its predecessor. However, the sales of the Sienna, 4Runner, and Sequoia all fell but was made up through the rest of the Toyota line-up. Toyota’s weakness? Scion. Of which sales of all three Scion models were down by more than 10%.
Will the new Ford redesigned models help save sales? Or will Ford fall to its knees.
Sometimes it’s best to join the ones you can’t win. As Ford continues to decline, big boy on the playground Toyota will soon be rising to number 2 on the automaker list and continues to make its way upwards on the waterfall. Ford CEO Alan Mulally and Mark Fields visited Japan last Wednesday to go over details of the partnership, this isn’t uncommon this year, as we saw GM partner up with Nissan, which didn’t happen. Yet nothing is known for sure, but if this little partnership does take place, it’ll be the merging of the greats of automakers.
Superstar hip-hop singer Kelis will help promote Ford and its new Edge crossover vehicle by participating in a new marketing campaign, which includes the creation of a hit new song “Push it to the Edge” by Kelis for the campaign. You can begin to see the campaign take shape when it goes into full swing on December 20 on the radio, on print material, television and through the Internet.
Here’s a tiny snippet of the lyrics:
So clean in my Edge
Steady headed to the spot
Speakers bump thump thump
All you hearin’ on the block
I live life loud
Cause that’s the only way to live it
I push it to the Edge
Never stop at the limit.
I don’t know about you, but Kelis isn’t the right celebrity to help promote a vehicle, in my opinion. She’s just so Bossy!
An anonymous tipster has just informed us that Ford is planning to expand its lightning-fast Mustangs with new bodystyles, including a 4-door sedan, as well as a wagon. The new 2009 Mustang is expected to be based on the Giugiaro Mustang concept from the Los Angeles Motor Show due to its popularity.
The Mustang has had quite a lot of different bodystyles, which range from the coupe, to the convertible, as well as a fastback. These have all been two-door versions of the Mustang. With the new introduction of family size Mustangs, Ford is hoping to increase interest of the Ford Mustang suitable for large-size families.
Ford gave us a preview of the new C-Max at this year’s Bologna Motor Show. The C-Max no longer is a Focus and gets a new refreshed look, including LED taillights with HID front lamps. Inside, the C-Max also gets a new refresh, with new interior colors. One of the things I noticed is that the C-Max looks a lot like the Mazda 5, except a bit less attractive. 🙄

Some rumors surfaced today in my inbox this morning. We all know that European Ford models are considered much better and superior to the ones introduced in the North Americas, and consumers keep demanding that Ford introduce these models available for the US. Reports say that Ford will start to introduce the European models in the Americas as soon as starting next year.
The report also stated that some models will include the European version of the Focus, the all-new Mondeo, the top-selling S-Max and Galaxy. One thing for sure is that the European Ford Focus will not be introduced here since a new generation will debut at the Detroit Auto Show.
We already saw a similar action taken by General Motors just yesterday. GM announced that it was going to add the Opel Astra from its European market and plan to make success here in the United States. But hey, who knows, you might see those European cars popping up anytime soon.
Ford has released yet another commercial that is bound to get the audience going, “Hey! Fords are cool.” This time, the scene starts off with the police chasing a Shelby GT Mustang. Pretty cool, huh? The action stops when the Shelby stops and the driver steps out of the car, which we discover that the driver is a police officer himself.
The commercial then ends with a guy sitting in the back of the police cruiser asking: “You guys still going to take me in?” And the police officer replies, “Not yet”. Oh, classic. But why are the greedy police officers always portrayed using large actors?

The Escape is back. This time, it’s bigger, better, and more powerful? From the looks of it, it definitely is a huge improvement over the current Escape. However, I’d really wish American vehicles could just stray away from the normal and go off into new ideas, rather than always having the same since the new Escape looks like every other Ford SUV on the market today. Oh, well, the interior has upgraded as well, with more high-quality materials than ever before. Oh, yes, and I love the new french fries holder.

Set to debut at the 2006 LA Auto Motor Show, Ford will introduce its Explorer with Fuel-Cell Hydrogen technology for the first time. The new fuel-cell SUV will drive farther than any fuel-cell vehicle on the market today. Along with efficiency, the Explorer is able to hold up to 6 passengers and lots of room for cargo. The prototype has travelled more than 17,000 miles in a 24-hour period, which is the longest record for a fuel-cell vehicle.

European automotive journalists have voted. The Ford S-Max van has won their hearts and became the “Car of the Year” for 2007. On the list of notable cars, there was the Citroen C4 Picasso, Fiat Grande Punto, Honda Civic, Opel/Hauxhall Corsa, Peugeot 207, Skoda Roomster, and the Volvo C30.
Not too shabby for a Ford. Keep up the good work! 🙂
